Grand Theft Auto V review, features

In the reviews of the last few weeks we have not stopped saying it: it is just behind the generational changes that the consoles are capable of giving the best of themselves, squeezed to the last drop by developers now confident after years of working on the same architectures. Hardware. And if, as in the case of a title like Grand Theft Auto, thanks to the stratospheric sales projections, the developers find million-dollar budgets worthy of the best Hollywood blockbusters at their disposal, you will understand that there is almost no limit to what is possible. Get. This is the case of GTA V, the fifth chapter of the award-winning and never too chatty saga created by Rock star Games, which after five long years of waiting finally arrives on our consoles:

Grand Theft Auto V

Reviews:

not the usual script

The great novelty of this GTA, which we have known for months, is the presence of three main characters. The choice has never been more accurate: the three personalities and the superb characterization of the characters -which we highlight for being excellent also for the non-protagonists and for the extras- knows how to satisfy the tastes of any type of player, while giving the draw a variety and depth never seen before. Here in the newsroom, GTA fans who were convinced that Tommy Vercetti’s charisma could never be equaled had to change their minds: the three protagonists that we will shortly identify collect all the characteristics of the various Tommy, Nico, CJ and keep saying,

There are three new faces in GTA V. Franklin, a young black man who makes a living stealing cars and organizing petty heists with the street gang he grew up with; Mike, a retired thief who drowns the frustrations of a not-so-happy family in alcohol and money; Trevor, former partner in Mike’s adventures and a crazy psychopath who, as the hours of play go by, you will learn to love for a characterization that at first was really unthinkable. The game will start with a flashback where you assume the role of Mike, and then jump forward a decade and allow you, over the course of a few hours, to impersonate the various characters for individual missions of your choosing. The vicissitudes of the three will lead them to finally see their destinies intertwined, culminating in what is the true backbone of GTA V, the main plot that rises above the myriad of subplots that we also recommend you follow from the first to the last. So you won’t miss a scene of the intricate fabric masterfully woven by Rock star storytellers.

In addition to the masterful character design of the main characters, it is worth noting the attention paid to the secondary actors, especially with regard to the “unknown and crazy” missions, marked on the map with the symbol Bounty hunters, paparazzi and Unlikely characters of all walks of life and walks of life will give you side quests that are unrelated to the main plot but equally fun and will never be mere filler as in the past. You will really feel that you are interacting with real characters, albeit in cartoon form, putting you in front of non-real protagonists with impressive charisma.

Free roaming to the nth degree

Trademark since the days when graphics were polygon-free and action was shot from above, the hallmark of Grand Theft Auto has been the sandbox structure and enormous freedom of action, with free-roaming at the forefront of every game. series chapter. GTA V is no exception and, thanks to a game world with an initially almost unsettling vastness, it allows the player unprecedented freedom of movement: it is possible to drive any vehicle, and by all we mean cars, motorcycles, boats, planes. , bicycles, bulldozers and any wheeled vehicle: play sports like tennis or paragliding, train at the shooting range, hunt, attend flight school, go to the psychologist, strip club or just to the bar for a drink. We stop here Moving on to what the actual gameplay is, however, in GTA V we have witnessed a general refinement of all those mechanics that Rockstar Games has accustomed us to over the years: driving the various vehicles, dealing with the numerous gunfights or get out of the sections unscathed. Stealth without getting caught is as simple as it is satisfying, thanks to a control system that, while it requires a few hours of play before being properly mastered, is ultimately intuitive and well thought out. Of exquisite workmanship, and entirely revised, the cover system in shootings, really very simple to use and capable of making the shootings more realistic thanks to the numerous improvised shelters properly scattered on the ground. The RPG-style skill system is also interesting: each character will have its own characteristics, strength percentages, resistance, aiming and driving skills and various activities, all to be improved by completing the secondary missions proposed by the game.

Trevor, for example, has military training that makes him much better at flying airplanes than Franklin and Mike, who are better off attending flight school before embarking on air travel than the aforementioned Trevor is not. You will have trouble riding easily. The same goes for shooting, the chance to take damage or deal it – each parameter is unique for each character and the player can decide which one and how much to improve it at his discretion before proceeding to the main quests. aim and skill in driving and in various activities, all to be improved by completing the secondary missions proposed by the game. Trevor, for example, has military training that makes him much better at flying airplanes than Franklin and Mike, who are better off attending flight school before embarking on air travel than the aforementioned Trevor is not. Between fiction and reality

Having found the gameplay in GTA V to be the best we’ve ever tested in the series, the technical sector is certainly not to be outdone: as has been said several times already, the game world is huge and highly detailed, with square kilometers of cities. , mountains, deserts, forests and oceans, all to explore to the last available inch. The attention to detail borders on the manic, so much so that you won’t be able to resist a sailboat trip just to take part in a dive to the bottom of the ocean and, once back on the surface, you can enjoy the sunset. Here and there we come across small technical inaccuracies, trees that suddenly sprout on the horizon in the widest valleys or are dressed in characters in some cases a bit plastic and unrealistic,

But how can we not also talk about the sound sector? Leaving aside the effects, of excellent workmanship but still not very distant from those of the previous chapters, in GTA V what caught our attention the most were the dialogues: literally millions of words and excellent recitations (in our Bel Paese Fortunately, the original dubbing was preserved only with subtitles in Spanish), both for the main characters and for the secondary ones or for the simple extras. All taking into account accents and nationality: listen to Lamar’s (mis)pronunciation of English in the first few minutes of the game and you will immediately understand our amazement at witnessing a truly maniacal care for the sound sector as well.

In conclusion

Our advice on this fifth chapter of Grand Theft Auto is only one: buy it now. Even if you have not played the previous chapters, or if you have tried them without particularly loving them, we assure you that the Rockstar product has so much to offer that if you have a console and want to see it perform its swan song before moving on to the next generation, GTA V is a must: an immense world that rewrites the definition of free roaming, a multi-platform technical sector that shakes the recent exclusives from Sony and Microsoft and, above all, an obsessive attention to detail in creating a world capable of reflecting and -as always Rockstar prescription- denounce the violent and corrupt Western civilization with disarming cynicism through the medium of video games. We’d like to advise against it only for well-thought-out players or the more impressionable ones, who may not feel comfortable in the face of typical GTA violence and profanity. Everyone else is safe: tackling all the campaign missions and even just a part of the secondary ones (we highly recommend all the “unknown and crazy” missions, crazy and very funny) will take you several hours, the limit of which will practically tend to Infinite once.
